Roadmap
What's in Anchor, what's coming, and what isn't. There are no dates: things ship when they're ready, and every update is free.
Shipped 10
In the app today.
-
Remembers every display setup1.0
Each monitor is recognized by its hardware ID, so home, office and laptop-only are separate setups, even after a reboot or a different port.
-
Restores windows when you dock or undock1.0
About a second after displays connect or disconnect, every window goes back where it was on that setup.
-
Learns automatically1.0
No save button needed: Anchor keeps each setup's layout up to date as you work.
-
Lock a layout1.0
Freeze a setup's layout so only "Save Current Layout" changes it.
-
Never Move list1.0
Keep apps like Zoom or games out of it, everywhere or on one setup.
-
Restore shortcut1.0
Press Control-Option-Command-R to snap everything back at any time.
-
Open missing apps1.0
Optionally open the apps that belong on a setup when you connect it, and put them in place.
-
Won't fight you1.0
Anchor only moves windows on display changes or when you ask. Move a window yourself and it stays.
-
7-day free trial, 3 Macs per license1.0
Every feature free for a week, then a one-time purchase. Works offline after activation.
-
Automatic updates1.0
New versions install from inside the app. Signed and notarized by Apple.

Save your display setups and layouts to a file, to back them up or move them to a new Mac.
-
Per-setup restore switch1.1
Turn automatic restoring off for one setup (say, a presentation screen) while keeping it on everywhere else.
Later 3
Wanted, not scheduled yet. Tell us what you'd use most.
-
Windows back on the right Space
Put windows back on the virtual desktop they came from, not just the right position.
-
Sync setups between your Macs
Your layouts follow you to your other Macs through your own iCloud.
-
More actions when you connect
For example, switch the sound output to your desk speakers when the office setup appears.
Not planned 4
Things we've decided not to build, and why.
-
A Mac App Store version
Moving other apps' windows needs the Accessibility API, which the App Store sandbox blocks, so Anchor is sold directly.
-
Window snapping and tiling
macOS tiling, Rectangle and Magnet already do this well. Anchor focuses on putting your layout back.
-
A subscription
Anchor is a one-time purchase, and updates are included.
-
An Anchor account
Anchor runs entirely on your Mac. There's nothing to sign up for, and your layouts never leave it.
